Integrity Systems Company (ISC) is inviting feedback on proposed changes to the Requirements for NLIS Animal Identification Technology (the Standard) as part of the program's scheduled review, undertaken with the NLIS Device Standards Committee.
What we are seeking feedback on
We are seeking feedback on the proposed changes only. The proposed changes are:
Why the main change is proposed
Removing visual-only identification aligns the Standard with the mandatory electronic identification (eID) of sheep and goats nationally from 1 January 2027. This change does not prevent the sale of visual-only tags — it means those tags will not be able to bear the NLIS logo.
Important — scope of this consultation
This consultation relates to the proposed changes only. Requirements that are not changing are outside the scope of this review. Suggestions about unchanged requirements will be recorded and can be considered at the next scheduled review of the Standard.
How to provide feedback
Dates
Comment opens 23 June 2026 and closes at 5:00pm AEST on 22 August 2026.
What happens next
Following the comment period, feedback will be considered by the NLIS Device Standards Committee. The final Standard will progress through required approvals and once finalised further communications will be provided.
