A new roadmap for productivity and profitability

A new roadmap for productivity and profitability

04 July 2025 | 3-Min Read

Earlier this week, Meat & Livestock Australia launched its new Strategic Plan and outlined a series of bold ambitions to drive productivity and profitability across the red meat supply chain over the next five years.

Meat & Livestock Australia's Managing Director, Michael Crowley, said that creating and capturing value along the supply chain would be pivotal to the organisation realising its ambitions for a more profitable industry, and that Integrity Systems Company would be central to achieving that goal.

“One of our key priorities will be the delivery of a robust two-way data flow that ensures producers are receiving clear pricing signals from the market to help them identify high-value traits,” Mr Crowley said.

To realise improved value, he said it would also be critical for farm and livestock credentials to be verifiable and for that data to seamlessly feed forward through the supply chain.

“Over the coming years, ISC will play a major part in our ability to deliver both those verified credentials and the enhanced capability required to capture, analyse and communicate data at each stage of the supply chain,” Mr Crowley said.

Supporting value creation through traceability

ISC’s Chief Executive Officer, Jo Quigley, said that the organisation was looking forward to supporting MLA’s value creation strategy through the ongoing delivery and improvement of the traceability and assurance programs that producers are already familiar with.

“Together, lifetime traceability and assurance deliver the livestock credentials that are essential to realising improved value through the supply chain,” Jo said. “However, it also plays a critical role in maintaining and expanding Australia’s market access by validating the robustness of Australia’s biosecurity, food safety and animal welfare,” Jo said.

“This will continue to play a critical role in establishing Australia’s point-of-difference and supporting ‘brand Australia’ in every global market we supply to – demonstrating we have the safest, cleanest product in the world.”

Data-driven value creation

Beyond its core function of livestock traceability, Jo said ISC’s data, insights and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities will also be expanded to support improved value creation.

“ISC will not only enable that seamless two-way data flow that’s going to be so critical to a productive and profitable supply chain, it will also enable producers to access more and better data to support informed and efficient production,” she said.

Over the next few years, ISC will be investing in enhancing its data, systems and AI capability to enable the rapid capture, analysis and sharing of data and insights – enabling industry to fast-track the linkage of datasets across genetics, eating quality and traceability, all of which underpin market demand.

“By feeding the right data back to producers, we’ll be able to help them accelerate the development of key traits such as fertility, carcase quality, feed efficiency, and disease resistance – helping improve both sustainability and productivity,” Jo said.
