CEO Message October

02 October 2025
-Min Read

With spring sales well underway, you’ll see we’ve included an overview of September’s market performance in this month’s newsletter and, if this proves popular, we’ll look at including other market stories in future editions.

This month’s article also includes the latest National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) Survey which shows an increase in the number of cattle and sheep moving through saleyards this year. That strong throughput at saleyards this year is a good reminder of the importance of keeping your NLIS accounts up to date.

Does your NLIS account accurately reflect the devices on your PIC?

If you’re a buyer, you should be ensuring all your transfers are recorded within the mandated 48-hour period. If you’re a seller, you should also take steps to confirm transfers off your PIC have been completed and that those devices have been removed from the relevant PIC.

This month’s feature story provides all the information you need to ensure your NLIS records are accurate and how to rectify any issues should they occur.

eNVD user survey

Our eNVD team continues to work on increased functionality of the eNVD and they’ve asked me to share this very brief survey to help them better understand what drives user adoption of the eNVD. Take the survey.

A year of the Self-Assessment tool

In September last year, we released the LPA Self-Assessment tool as part of the accreditation and re-accreditation process.

Over that time, almost 70,000 producers have used the Self-Assessment tool, with almost 47,000 downloading their bespoke Recommendations Report.

We’ve had tremendous feedback via the Self-Assessment Accreditation Survey, with 90% of survey respondents saying they had no difficulty completing it and 95% saying it was helpful in helping them understand the LPA requirements.

We've also seen 43,250 Biosecurity Plans completed, with more than 40,000 of these completed online. The new Animal Welfare Management Plan was launched in June this year and more than 18,000 have been completed, with more than 15,000 undertaken via LPA Self-Assessment.

Audience survey

As mentioned at the start of this message, we’re testing out some new content this month and we’d like to hear more from you about the type of content you want to see more (or less) of in future editions of Integrity Matters.

If you’d like to share your thoughts, please take this short Audience Survey for the chance to win a $150 gift voucher. The survey will remain open until 11.59pm on Friday 31 October and it shouldn’t take more than five minutes to complete.

Current tenders

MLA has a number of exciting opportunities available for individuals, organisations or project teams which may be of interest, including harnessing the power of data and AI, eNVD adoption in the red meat supply chain, and carcase tracking solutions for improved end-to-end traceability and feedback. You can see the full list of available tenders on the MLA website.

MLA Updates

In closing, I wanted to remind you that MLA Updates 2025 is heading to the Adelaide Convention Centre on 19 and 20 November.

This year’s theme is Towards 2030: Driving prosperity through productivity, profitability and sustainability. The whole event is free to attend and you don’t need to be an MLA member to come along.

I’ll be there both days and hosting a panel discussion on the Thursday (20 November) which looks at How technology is reshaping agriculture.

It would be great to see you there.

Kind regards

Jo Quigley
