Taking the time to familiarise weaners with handling processes can pay dividends for producers and their livestock according to Queensland cattle, Boer goat and lamb producer Glenda Henry.

Glenda and her partner Collin Valler run Bellarine Boer Goats alongside their Brahman cattle and fat lambs over 6,500 acres in Emerald’s highlands.

According to Glenda, making livestock familiar with transport, yard handling and loading makes for faster and stress-free processes in the long run.

UPDATE: New NVDs for goats and harvested rangeland goats

The rollout of mandatory sheep and goat electronic identification (eID) commenced on 1 January 2025.

Since then, the following important changes have been made to National Vendor Declarations (NVDs) for goats. Goat operators need to be aware of these to ensure they are meeting their compliance responsibilities when transporting goats in future.

Goat NVD books

The July 2020 version of the Goat NVD book (0720) is being phased out and will no longer be valid for use after 30 June 2025.

The new version of the Goat NVD (0524) is now available and has been updated to remove any reference to harvested rangeland goats and tag-free movements.

Harvested Rangeland Goats NVD books

The new HRG NVD book (0324) and corresponding HRG eNVD will only be available to HRG-accredited producers or registered goat depots who have received approval for tag-free movements from their relevant state or territory government via the voluntary LPA HRG module.

Accredited HRG operators can use the new HRG NVD to continue tag-free mob-based movements of harvested rangeland goats direct to an abattoir or registered goat depot.

Please note, any farmed or managed goats will still need to be moved using the regular Goat NVD (0720 or 0524).

Accessing Goat NVDs electronically

Both the Goat and HRG NVDs are available online via the eNVD mobile or web-based systems within your LPA account.

For more information on accessing NVDs or eNVDs for managed and harvested rangeland goats, visit the ISC Sheep and Goat eID webpage.
