Animal Welfare Management Tool Now Live

A new requirement has now been added to the Animal Welfare module of the Livestock Production Assurance (LPA) program.

This additional requirement involves creating and submitting an Animal Welfare Management Plan (AWMP) as part of LPA accreditation or reaccreditation, or at any time through your LPA account. A tool to simplify this process and make it easier for producers is now live.

Completing an AWMP helps demonstrate how your on-farm practices meet the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines. It also provides an opportunity for additional guidance on meeting the requirements of these standards and guidelines and gives greater confidence to both domestic and international customers about animal welfare on-farm in Australia.

Once completed, the AWMP will be available for download as a PDF and will also be stored in the producer’s LPA account for easy access and updating.

Audit requirement

From 1 September 2025, checking the AWMP has been completed will form a part of the LPA audit process. Audit notifications will include a reminder about this requirement.

If a producer is selected for an audit after 1 September and they have not completed their AWMP, they will have 30 days to complete their AWMP.

ISC will also follow up with producers to ensure they understand how to complete the AWMP and provide further support where required.
