With Christmas only a few days away, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy holiday. 

Of course, the Australian summer often carries the risk of flood or fire danger, so I wanted to encourage everyone to read this month’s story on how to Prepare for summer weather events – these evergreen tips and resources are designed to help you prepare for and manage your disaster recovery if the worst happens.

Recycled water use 

With the warmer weather, many producers may also be turning to recycled water supplies. If you are relying on wastewater from a treatment plant, there are a number of requirements LPA accredited cattle producers must undertake to remain compliant.  

It is essential that cattle exposed to inadequately treated recycled water are identified, traceable, and declared as exposed to C. bovis on any outgoing LPA NVDs.

Improved PIC searching 

I wanted to quickly flag our recently enhanced Property Identification Code (PIC) Search feature, which is highlighted as this month’s eNVD Featured Function. I know PIC searching has been a real pain point for some time, so I’m sure this will be well received by many of our eNVD users and I'd encourage you to give it a try next time you're consigning livestock.

LIVExchange: Global Biosecurity 

In late November, LIVExchange – the world’s largest live export conference – took place in Perth, and many of the conference presentations are now available on the LIVExchange website. 

Some of you may be interested in watching this discussion of global biosecurity, presented by Dr Mark Schipp - the former Australian Chief Veterinary Officer and former President of the World Organisation for Animal Health. 

Mark’s presentation highlighted the extent of the global disease burden and how it’s being managed, as well as the impact biosecurity concerns have on international markets.
