With the end of the year rapidly approaching, I wanted to remind our EUCAS-accredited producers that the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) will come into effect from 30 December this year.

If your cattle are destined for European markets and you haven’t already opted in to share your geolocation data via your LPA account, I’d urge you to do so as soon as possible to ensure your ongoing eligibility for this market.

Nationally mandated adoption of sheep and goat eID
Another deadline is fast approaching with all Australian sheep and farmed goats required to be fitted with an NLIS-approved electronic identification (eID) device by 1 January 2027. For WA producers, this deadline came into effect on 1 July this year.

For more information on what is required, please visit the Sheep and Goat Traceability Task Force or Integrity Systems websites, or watch these videos on traceabilty from the South Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA).

I also wanted to remind producers and operators that when relying on the paper books, it is vital to use the correct National Vendor Declaration. You can find more information on which declaration is correct for your animals on our website.

How can AI help you on farm?
Expressions of Interest to participate in the FarmAI trial are closing on 16 October. This is a great opportunity for producers to provide their perspective on how AI can help improve on-farm efficiency, so please consider taking part. Read more about the trial in last month’s article.

MLA Updates
Next month, I’ll be heading to Townsville for this year’s MLA Updates and Annual General Meeting on 24 November. Each year, MLA Updates provides a great face-to-face opportunity for producers to hear from and speak to leaders and experts from MLA’s Research & Development, Adoption, Marketing, and Integrity Systems teams, so if you’re able to come along, I hope to see you there.

Integrity Systems will have a team onsite ready to answer any questions you may have about LPA, NLIS or eNVDs.

In the meantime, I’d encourage you to check our events page for up-to-date information about future opportunities to meet members of our team in person.

In October, there’s an MLA MeatUp Forum in Broken Hill on the 14th, Cattle Connect is happening in Wagga Wagga on 22 and 23 October, and then NSW Central Tablelands Local Land Services will host Australian National Field Days at Borenore on 22 October.

Kind regards

Jo Quigley
