A message from Jo Quigley
I'm pleased to confirm that NLIS 2.0 is now on track to go live in late 2027. Getting to this point has been a long process. Modernising a 25-year-old livestock traceability system with the scale and complexity of the NLIS is a significant undertaking.
Over the past three years, our priority has been to get it right, rather than compromise the quality or capability of the finished platform.
A huge amount of work has gone into validating the design, strengthening delivery arrangements and ensuring we have the right foundations in place for a successful rollout.
We've completed proof-of-concept testing across three real-world livestock traceability scenarios: livestock device issuance, property-to-property movements and loss of lifetime traceability. All three successfully met their requirements.
Based on these results, we're confident the upgraded NLIS will be fit for purpose. Our focus is now on building, testing and implementing the new platform by the end of next year.
Approaching deadlines
Just a quick reminder there are some significant deadlines rapidly approaching.
Mandatory sheep and goat eIDs come into full effect nationally on 1 January 2027. If you’re still unsure what’s required, I’d recommend watching our recent webinar for all the information you need to be prepared. You can find links to the recording and support resources in this month’s article.
The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) comes into effect from 30 December 2026. If you are a EUCAS-accredited producer, please read the guidance on our website and consider sharing your geolocation data to ensure your beef and beef products remain eligible for export to this market.
Webinars
The end of the year might be rapidly approaching, but there's still time to register for one of our Integrity Systems webinars being run through November and December.
Our next webinar, scheduled for this Thursday, 12 November, will focus on biosecurity management strategies.
Mark Cozens from Animal Health Australia (AHA) will join us to provide an update on the potential risks posed by avian influenza. It should be a very informative session for anyone concerned about the potential impacts of the current outbreak.
Please read this month's article to learn more about the other webinars available and register to attend.
A milestone for AHA
With AHA supporting our upcoming biosecurity webinar, I’d also like to congratulate the organisation on celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
AHA plays a vital role in supporting Australia’s biosecurity system, working across government, industry and research bodies to tackle challenges that no single organisation could address alone.
AHA also provides a range of resources to support producers with biosecurity issues and the development of their biosecurity management plans.
MLA Updates
November means MLA Updates is just around the corner.
This year's event is shaping up to be another great one, with plenty of opportunities to learn more about MLA's strategic focus areas, including value-based marketing, multibreed genetics, and on-farm productivity.
Many of the Peak Industry Bodies will be represented, and members of the Integrity Systems team and I will be onsite and ready to answer your questions about NLIS, LPA and eNVD.
This year's event will be held in Townsville on 24 November and will incorporate MLA's Annual General Meeting. If you'd like to attend, it's not too late to register.
Do you have an on-farm idea worth testing
The MLA Producer Demonstration Sites Open Call returns in 2027 with applications opening on 1 April.
If you have an on-farm project you’d like to test, visit the PDS Updates webpage or subscribe to the mailing list to stay informed about PDS activities and be alerted when the next project call opens.
myMLA account
I’d like to remind everyone of the importance of keeping your contact details up to date across all your Integrity Systems accounts.
This helps ensure you don't miss important communications or updates about your LPA and NLIS accounts, which could affect your accreditation or the traceability of your animals.
Please read this month's article for information on how to manage your accounts, and please update your details as soon as possible if anything has changed.
Kind regards
Jo Quigley
